I’m totally excited today, and I had to send you this letter right away. It’s been driving me nuts since I got up this morning. I’ve got something very special for you. In fact, when I tell you what this story is all about, you’re going to be shocked. Have you ever seen the movie “Groundhog Day”? It stars Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, and not only is it a really clever and ingenious movie, it’s got a great lesson in it that I think most guys miss. It is probably the best example of my REAL Game method of how to pickup the woman you want – without being a jerk. If you haven’t seen “Groundhog Day,” definitely go out and rent it. It’s a lot of fun. If you HAVE seen it, you’re going to really love what I’ve got to show you today. Let’s go through the classic “Three Acts” of the movie so you can really appreciate this. I call it: HOW TO PICKUP WOMEN – (When you’re ready to stop trying to be a pickup artist…) ACT I: Right away, we meet all the characters. Bill Murray is Phil Connors – the “diva” weatherman who’s obviously a pain in the ass to work with. He’s self-involved, ego-centric, and a royal jerk sometimes. Andie MacDowell plays Rita, an adorably sweet producer who is working with Phil to go to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania for Groundhog Day.

Phil and Rita and the cameraman go to cover the annual festivities with Punxsutawney Phil – the groundhog who – if he sees his shadow – can predict that winter will last another 6 weeks. After the celebration concludes, a blizzard develops that Phil had predicted would miss them, closing the roads and shutting down long-distance phone service, forcing the team to return to Punxsutawney. Phil awakens the next morning (his radio again playing Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe”), only to find it is again February 2- Groundhog Day, and his day unfolds in exactly the same way. Phil is aware of the repetition, but everyone else seems to be living February 2 exactly the same – and for the first time. This happens the following morning as well, over and over again. His memories of the “previous” day remain intact, trapped in a seemingly endless “time loop” to repeat the same day in the same small town. Phil then gets an idea – one which you or I would probably try if we were in his shoes.

This leads us to… ACT II: Phil starts to take advantage of learning the day’s events and the information he’s able to gather about the town’s inhabitants, and that his actions have no long-term consequences. (He uses this knowledge like many guys use tricks and techniques to learn how to pickup women.) Phil exploits this situation for a time: seducing beautiful women, stealing money, even driving drunk and getting into a police chase. However, his attempts to seduce his producer, Rita, are met with repeated failure. In a vain attempt to break the cycle, he kidnaps Phil the Groundhog and drives a stolen truck into a quarry, causing both him and the groundhog to die in a fiery explosion; but the loop doesn’t stop. When he dies, he simply wakes up to Sonny & Cher in the same bed again. Despair begins to creep into Phil’s cookie-cutter life. Phil had initially tried to seduce Rita by learning as much as he could about her on a daily basis, which fails miserably. However, he finally figures out how to reach her in a more REAL and authentic way. He tells her about his situation – how he’s reliving the same day over and over again – and manages to convince her with his extensive knowledge of things that happen, facts about the Punxsutawney townspeople, and even Rita herself. Phil opens up to Rita, and her advice helps him to gradually find a goal for his trapped life: as a giver to others.

He discovers that in a single day he can’t bring others to fulfill HIS needs, but he can achieve self-improvement by educating and changing himself a little bit every day. After seeing an elderly homeless man die, Phil vows that no one will die on “his” day and performs many heroic services, including performing the Heimlich Maneuver on a guy choking on meat, and saving a little boy who falls from a tree. Though the film doesn’t tell you how many times he repeats this day, there’s enough time for Phil to learn many complex skills, such as how to play jazz piano, speak French, sculpt ice, and memorize the life story of almost everyone in town. And this leads us to the end… ACT III: Eventually, Phil enhances his own human understanding which, in return, makes him an appreciated and beloved man in the town. There’s a classic scene at a party where he’s auctioned off and every woman in the room wants him. When Rita starts seeing this for herself, she even starts to “pickup” on Phil. But what does Phil do? Now he puts her off, and focuses on his own life, and she’s even more intrigued about him with every new repetition of the day. Finally, after revealing his genuine feelings to Rita, not the fake ones he created to try and seduce her, he wakes up on February 3 again to “I Got You Babe”. Only now it’s a new day, with Rita beside him on the bed. And Groundhog Day finally ends for him.

I really love this movie because it’s a great parallel to what guys experience in trying to learn pickup skills and how to pickup women. At first they learn the techniques that are merely superficial. They may get some success, but the success that really matters – with QUALITY women – eludes them. And they repeat the cycle over and over again. Until they learn how to put aside their own need to GET and they get focused on themselves. And when they do – WOW, all of a sudden they don’t really care about the big “goal” of being a pickup artist and learning how to pickup women. And then the women start to come to YOU. I propose that we’re all living in our own “Groundhog Day” – every day. We have the opportunity to turn the seemingly constant repetition of events (wake up, go to work, go out, go eat, go to bed…) into a sculpting wheel, where we’re able to fashion our lives with each repeating turn of the clay. Okay, maybe my metaphor was a bit of a stretch there, but you see what I mean. If you’ve ever wondered if learning how to pickup women was the goal – or if there’s something else after the pickup artist lifestyle – then what you’re about to read could change your life. I mean that. It changed MY life, and I want to pass it on to you.
